What to Expect at Your Child’s Dental Appointment
Nerves about dental appointments are common, especially when it comes to a dental appointment for your child. But knowing what to expect can help!
When you and your child arrive, our friendly front desk team will get your child checked in. Enjoy our amenities while you wait, but rest assured you won’t wait long! We’ll call your child back — and you’re welcome to come, too! Once your child is settled into the dental chair, we’ll walk you both through the appointment — a gentle exam, X-rays if necessary (digital, so they’re quick and easy!), a fluoride treatment and dental cleaning, and then you’re done! We even send your child home with a new toothbrush that they can pick out.
If your child needs any additional treatments, we’ll go over those in detail with you before we get started, so you both know what to expect.
Ways to Get Your Child Excited About Their Dental Exam
We are all guilty of expressing our anxiety about an upcoming dental exam, but that can lead to anxiety in young children, too, if they hear us. Instead, get your child excited about the appointment by talking up the dentist and how fun the visit will be. Make games of brushing teeth leading up to the appointment. We even invite you to bring your child by for a meet-and-greet with our team to help him or her feel more at ease when the day of the appointment arrives. Kids who aren’t scared of the dentist are more likely to keep up with regular appointments later in life and have a healthy smile for a lifetime.
